Introducing Joe Simpson
Welcome to joesimpson.info, the personal sandbox for Joe A Simpson Jr -- here you'll find the latest information projects, videos or podcasts, activities, and musings on the worlds I traverse.
Joe A. Simpson, Jr. is a Front-End Web Developer and Graphic Designer specializing in WordPress solutions. During days he works at a top-five transit agency, fighting the good fight to ease the commute around Los Angeles County.
After a life-threatening heart event and a brief leave of absence, a journey to rediscover the things that nourished and nurtured him led him back to a love of WordPress.
A seasoned speaker with over 46 public presentations, Joe A Simpson Jr. has given back to Community at WordCamps in Long Beach, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Orange County, Chicago, and as an emcee at US.
An Advanced Toastmaster Silver, he has woven engaging topics for audiences on Accessibility, User Experience/Design, SEO, and contributing to the WordPress Community.
In 2010, when Metro’s Lead Developer and CSS goddess both left to pursue other opportunities, Joe inherited a Headway-themed design (sans child theme) and the rest is history ten years later, managing a WordPress blog network consisting of dozen project-specific or transit news sites.
In January 2017, Joe founded the WordPress Santa Clarita Valley Meetup to build the WordPress Community locally as opposed to having to stay or drive to downtown Los Angeles or other surrounding areas to give back.
Joe is the founder of the WordPress Santa Clarita Valley Meetup, speaks on design, accessibility, user experience, and Community at WordCamps and was responsible for the North Valley's first WordCamp Santa Clarita, Spring 2019.
Just north of Los Angeles on Interstate 5 is the city of Santa Clarita, the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County.
With thirty-four parks/open spaces, three local commuter colleges, a fledgling film studio and tech community, a nationally-known amusement park, and a public transit system, the Santa Clarita Valley is the perfect spot to contribute to host WordCamp Santa Clarita.

I realized it when stuck in late-night traffic on one of the mega-interchanges in the farthest reaches of Southern California fresh coffee spilled on my lap. “Joe, start a WordPress Community closer to home and you’d be in bed by 10:30 pm” instead of making a decision on which off-ramp to take at the El…Read More

If you’re new to WordPress or have been using it a while today begins a weekend that may be valuable to you (although I dread it). Black Friday is underway — a four day weekend culminating with CyberMonday that offers a number of deals on the tools and products that site owners should leverage.Read More
Giving back by presenting to a great WordPress Community Although a 100-mile drive from the northern valleys of LA County from Santa Clarita southeast to SolarMax for WordCamp Riverside 2019, it was well worth it. Most importantly, supporting Lead Organizer Joshua Knappe, his team, and the other Southern California WordCamps is key. As I took…Read More
A look back at my whirlwind week in the WordPress Community Like that large blackbird sitting on the streetlight outside my bedroom window each morning, a Google Flights notification to St. Louis greeted me each morning. Possibilities with serious doubts were chirping at me constantly. After all the event was less than a week away!…Read More
You press the forward button on the remote arriving at the final slide in the presentation and someone IMMEDIATELY wants a copy for reference. As a seasoned speaker, this means there’s a connection with your audience and can pat myself on the back. Having GREAT content based on The Choice Factory which was half the…Read More
