Introducing Joe Simpson
Welcome to joesimpson.info, the personal sandbox for Joe A Simpson Jr -- here you'll find the latest information projects, videos or podcasts, activities, and musings on the worlds I traverse.
Joe A. Simpson, Jr. is a Front-End Web Developer and Graphic Designer specializing in WordPress solutions. During days he works at a top-five transit agency, fighting the good fight to ease the commute around Los Angeles County.
After a life-threatening heart event and a brief leave of absence, a journey to rediscover the things that nourished and nurtured him led him back to a love of WordPress.
A seasoned speaker with over 46 public presentations, Joe A Simpson Jr. has given back to Community at WordCamps in Long Beach, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Orange County, Chicago, and as an emcee at US.
An Advanced Toastmaster Silver, he has woven engaging topics for audiences on Accessibility, User Experience/Design, SEO, and contributing to the WordPress Community.
In 2010, when Metro’s Lead Developer and CSS goddess both left to pursue other opportunities, Joe inherited a Headway-themed design (sans child theme) and the rest is history ten years later, managing a WordPress blog network consisting of dozen project-specific or transit news sites.
In January 2017, Joe founded the WordPress Santa Clarita Valley Meetup to build the WordPress Community locally as opposed to having to stay or drive to downtown Los Angeles or other surrounding areas to give back.
Joe is the founder of the WordPress Santa Clarita Valley Meetup, speaks on design, accessibility, user experience, and Community at WordCamps and was responsible for the North Valley's first WordCamp Santa Clarita, Spring 2019.
Just north of Los Angeles on Interstate 5 is the city of Santa Clarita, the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County.
With thirty-four parks/open spaces, three local commuter colleges, a fledgling film studio and tech community, a nationally-known amusement park, and a public transit system, the Santa Clarita Valley is the perfect spot to contribute to host WordCamp Santa Clarita.

Heading home to Michigan meant reconnecting with ‘old friends’ and returning to WordCamp Grand Rapids allowed me to reconnect with some great people I met during the past two years of my journey back into WordPress.Read More
Two years ago on June 17th, technicians laid me out flat on a cold, hard, operating table being poked, prodded, and prepped for a surgical procedure. According to doctors, cardiac catheterization was the only sure way to find out what was wrong but the risks were really, really frightening. Counting backward, the last thought was…Read More
I dreamed of this day. Like the phantom pain that first appeared in my left arm, then my right, and chest that my doctors couldn’t diagnose for five years, suddenly materializing in an instant- WordCamp Santa Clarita presented itself to the WordPress Community April 5-6, 2019.

WordCamp Phoenix (#wcphx) closed the circle for me. In presenting a Lighting Talk and participating in a Contributor Day panel, I had given a talk at WordPress in all current formats. Here’s a look back at the first West Coast WordCamp of 2019, February 15-17 in the Valley of the Sun.Read More
It’s yours for the taking Thank you for attending my lighting talk today, 90 Days to Live: Finding your Place in the WordPress Community, at WordCamp Phoenix 2019. On February 16, 3:20p I’ll circle the proverbial bases scoring my fourth presentation at WordCamp Phoenix, in the Valley of the Sun. It all seems like a blur, but presenting “90 Days: Finding your place in the WordPress Community“, marks another milestone proving that when focusing on things you’re passionate about, amazing things are possible…Read More

Most Meetups go down like this – show up a few minutes early hoping for snacks (after all, you come over right after work most often), get a comfortable seat with a good view of the night’s presenter. This August night was no different if you have your Meetup 52 FLOORS ABOVE DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, ARE TREATED TO AN EVENING WITH CHRIS DO, and you’re FEATURED PROMINENTLY ON A SEGMENT FOR HIS POPULAR YOUTUBE CHANNEL SHOW! Not to sound all Fan Boy and such but this was (yet again) another example of why the WordPress Community is so cool!Read More
